Interestingly, this team, the team behind the Sins of a Galactic Empire mods, and the Halo-themed mod teams from ArmA 3 and Tiberian Sun have come together to create Chokepoint games. The team created some very high quality art and audio assets for the mod, introduced new features and heavily modified the base game. This is one of those mod projects that, with the right support, is on the verge of becoming a professional studio. With the Sins of the Prophet mod for SOASE Rebellion, you can live out your space-based Halo fantasies with fully elaborated UNSC and Covenant factions. Who would have thought that the best Halo game would actually be a mod for a nine year old strategy game? Ok, ok, well – I’m kidding, but the Halo franchise has always focused on ground-based action, incredibly focused storytelling against the backdrop of an interstellar war.
Let’s take a look at some of our favorite picks. There are some excellent mods for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, many of which have been ported to and from other games. Part of the reason the game’s continued popularity is due to its dedicated and knowledgeable mods community. We’re not sure what happened to the developers (who still seemed to be patching the game and releasing DLC), but at some point they were sued by Rebellion, so it’s good that they at least stay in there. The only real “sin” of SOASE is that even after all this time there was no real sequel. It was a flawed experience, but one that the Ironclad Games team tried to iterate through several expansions like Trinity and then the ‘final’ edition of the game with Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion 2012. Originally released in 2008, it combined the best of RTS games and 4X games to create a wonderfully ruthless space-based strategy experience, with fleets of capital and sub-capital ships dancing from system to system as you scramble for dominance over random maps fought.
